Can I get same day plates?
Yes. With our Same Day DMV Services you leave with your plates, registration card and sticker when you register a vehicle, transfer plates or renew your registration. Custom plates and titles are not same day; the DMV processes and mails those.
Do I need an appointment for DMV services?
No. Walk-ins are welcome at all 4 offices. You can also book a 15-minute time online.
What paperwork do I need to bring?
To register a vehicle, bring your NY driver license or NY State ID, the title (a copy, or the signed title if you bought the car), the bill of sale and/or DTF-802 if it applies, your New York insurance card, and a lien release if the car had a loan. For a plate transfer, also bring a copy of the registration being transferred, and your insurance card must say REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. For a renewal, bring your license, a copy of your old registration (not the sticker) and your insurance card. For a plate surrender, bring your plates and your license or registration copy. Are DMV fees included in your prices?
No. Our prices are LJ service fees. DMV fees are extra and paid to the DMV.
How much is a taxi or TLC registration renewal?
Our fee for TLC drivers is $35.
How much does it cost to register a car at LJ?
Our fee is $79. DMV fees, such as the registration fee, plate fee and any sales tax, are charged separately and paid to the DMV.
Can I get my plates the same day?
Yes. We offer Same Day DMV Services. You leave with your plates, registration card and sticker.
How much does a registration renewal cost?
Our fee is $45, or $35 for TLC drivers. DMV fees are charged separately.
When will I get my sticker?
The same day. You leave with your new registration card and sticker.
How much does a plate surrender cost?
Our fee is $29.
When do I get my FS-6T receipt?
The same day. We give you the FS-6T receipt when the surrender is processed.
How much does a plate transfer cost?
Our fee is $79. DMV fees are charged separately.
Can I transfer plates the same day?
Yes, plate transfers are part of our Same Day DMV Services.
How much does it cost to replace plates?
Our fee is $45 for replacement plates, a duplicate registration, a registration change or peeling plates. DMV fees are separate.
Do I need a police report?
Only if your plates were stolen.
How much do custom plates cost?
Our fee is $45. The DMV also charges $60 initial and $31.25 a year for passenger and commercial plates, or $35 initial and $18.75 a year for motorcycle plates.
Can I get custom plates the same day?
No. Custom plates are made to order and mailed by the DMV.
How much are in-transit plates?
Our fee is $99.
What do I need to bring?
Your driver license, the title or bill of sale, and proof of insurance.
How much does a duplicate title cost?
Our fee is $45, plus a $20 DMV fee paid by money order.
How much does a new title cost?
Our fee is $45, plus a $50 DMV fee paid by money order.
How much does a driving record cost?
Our fee is $25.
How do I receive it?
We email you a PDF.
Can I register an out-of-state car at LJ?
Yes. Bring your ID, your out-of-state title or registration, and a New York insurance card.
Do I need New York insurance?
Yes. New York requires New York auto insurance to register a vehicle. We can quote it for you.
How much is a TLC registration renewal?
Our fee for TLC drivers is $35. DMV fees are charged separately.
Do you get new TLC plates?
No. We transfer TLC plates from your old vehicle to your new one, but we don't apply for new TLC plates.
How much is a TLC plate transfer?
Our fee is $179. DMV and TLC fees are charged separately.
Are there service fees?
Yes. We charge a $79 service fee for newly bound policies and $49 for renewals. We do not charge endorsement or claim handling fees.
Which carrier do you use for commercial auto?
We offer commercial auto through Progressive.
